The water supplier of Chisinau has launched a campaign to promote running water. Brochures with information about the quality of water in the municipal water supply system will be distributed between March 1 and 22. Those who will go to the company’s head office will be given by a bottle of water of the mark “Apa-Canal Chisinau” (ACC). A number of 1,000 bottles were prepared overall for the campaign entitled “Created by nature, supplied by us”, IPN reports.
ACC director Veronica Herta said the drinking water has three advantages: the product is controlled by the authorities and by the supplier; meets the legal provisions concerning quality and is available immediately and any time. “We should only turn the faucet on,” the director told a news conference.
According to Veronica Herta, during 2016 alone, the two accredited labs – the Lab of the Nistru Water Station and the Drinking Water Lab – examined over 183,000 samples of water by more than 170,000 physical-chemical examinations and over 474,000 bacteriological tests. In parallel, the Public Health Center daily monitors the quality of water when this leaves the treatment stations and in the distribution network.
Veronica Herta also spoke about costs. The people, when they purchase a bottle of water, pay most for packing. Giving as example the 1,000 bottles that will be distributed within the campaign, the director said the total volume of bottled water is of 1 cubic meter for which the consumers of Chisinau municipality pay 8.06 lei. The bottling of 1,000 one-liter bottles cost the company about 4,600 lei, without transportation and remuneration costs. Thus, a liter of bottled water costs 4.6 lei, while a liter of running water costs 0.01 lei, given the current tariff of 8.06 lei. Thus, the running water is 460 times cheaper than the bottled one and is not worse in terms of quality.
Arcadie Rusnac, head of the ACC Water Quality Control Department, assured that the water from the municipal water supply system meets the chemical parameters and is safe to drink. The water is unfit only when repair works are executed, but the consumers are warned in such situations.
The distribution of the 1,000 bottles with water of the mark “Apa-Canal Chisinau” and of informative brochures will end on March 22, when it is celebrated World Water Day. At the end of the campaign, the company will stage the Open Doors Day at the wastewater treatment station for those interested in the multiple water purification processes. Also, an ACC mobile lab will be set up in the central park of Chisinau, where all those who want will be able to test the quality of water from domestic faucets.
