Apa-Canal Chisinau designs floods intervention plan

Following the rise in the level of water in the Nistru River, SA Apa-Canal Chisinau intends to take measures to prevent floods. According to a communiqué from the water supplier, an intervention measures plan was worked out. If need be, the company will supply the population, hospitals and bakeries with water in tanks, IPN reports.

The communiqué says the increase in the volume of water released from the Dnestrovsk accumulation pond following the higher level of water in the Nistru, the pumping station and the water station on the Nistru face the danger of being flooded. In order to prevent floods, there will be purchased at least 500 sacks, sand and dozens of shovels for carrying out protection works as well as chemical reagents for disinfecting the tanks and treating the water. The pumping stations will use six additional artesian wells in case of necessity.

According to a warning issued by the State Hydrometeorology Service, the level of water in the Nistru will rise by 2-3 meters on average between April 5 and 15. Parts of the farmland in Stefan-Voda district may be flooded.
