The head of SA Apa-Canal Chisinau (ACC) Constantin Becciev said the water supplier is in a deplorable financial situation as it must pay huge penalties on the loan provided by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), Info-Prim Neo reports. According to Becciev, the company was forced by tax bodies to pay 25 million lei of the penalties of 30 million lei because the state repaid parts of the loan instead of Apa-Canal Chisinau. A sum of 11 million lei was withdrawn from the company's account last week. Besides, Apa-Canal Chisinau has to pay 12 million lei debts for electric power and cover the costs of over 140 million lei for transporting the mud. All these expenses were not included in the water charges, Constantin Becciev said. Mayor General Dorin Chirtoaca said if the water charges hadn't been raised, the water supplier might have gone bankrupt. Now the company must pay penalties on the loan granted by the EBRD. “This loan will cost us very dear. Somebody must answer for putting the water supplier in such a situation,” Chirtoaca said. SA Apa-Canal Chisinau took out loans from Moldovan commercial banks in order to repay the loan provided by the EBRD.
