Any solution should offer Transnistria broad autonomy, Eugen Carpov

Any solution to the Transnistrian conflict should be based on the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Moldova, while the Transnistrian region must be offered broad autonomy, Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Eugen Carpov said after the April 6 closed sitting of Parliament, quoted by Info-Prim Neo. “It is probably the first time in the last ten years that such a hearing on the Transnistrian issue was held. Until we have two top priorities – the European integration and the country’s reunification – they both should be treated equally. The European integration issue is raised often and the country’s reintegration should be also discussed at different formal forums on a regular basis,” stated Eugen Carpov. He also said that the Government’s work program envisions working out a Transnistrian conflict settlement strategy. Eugen Carpov presented a report in Parliament on the situation in the Transnistrian region. The meeting was held behind closed doors and lasted for over three hours.
