Any Head of State and any body that manages a democratic state must place the fight against corruption high on the list of national priorities. The people must understand that when there is corruption, national security is vulnerable. The state itself is in danger, Romanian judge and anticorruption expert Cristi Danilet stated in an interview for Radio Free Europe. According to him, by corruption the people are bought, posts are bought and businesses are bought. Therefore, the fight against corruption must become a target, an emblem and a goal of all those holding high-ranking posts, IPN reports.

According to the expert, Romania and the Republic of Moldova have the same problem. They are captive states. “When the people occupy the posts by other criteria than the meritocratic ones, they will abuse the posts and will ultimately embezzle the people’s money. The Head of State must cooperate with all the state institutions, starting with justice, which must be strengthened so that it is independent and is able to clean society,” stated Cristi Danilet.

The judge said that as long as justice is under political control, it does not meet one of the main criteria, which is independence. This condition is essential for a democracy. “The Head of State must request the Parliament and, respectively, the government to eliminate any form of control over justice. Any form of control. Until the politicians control justice, there will be no independent justice and, thus, no efficient justice. The President must seek the required legislative changes for justice to be independent,” noted the expert.

According to him, Moldova’s future President must be a good patriot and must be aware that when he is elected to the post, he must satisfy the public interests, not the group interests or the interests of politicians who supported him and chose him to this post. The President must act transparently when he takes measures, in particular when naming judges so as to eliminate any suspicion that he interferes in the career of judges.
