The antiskid material used by the road workers this year is better than the previous years because 30% of it represents salt, said Minister of Transport and Road Infrastructure Anatol Salaru. Earlier, the mixture contained only 10% of salt, Info-Prim Neo reports. In the February 4 meeting of the Commission on Emergencies, the minister said there were prepared about 70,000 tonnes of antiskid material and will be purchased 20,000 tonnes of salt. “The supplier could not find train cars to transport the salt and delivered only 7,300 tonnes. We bought another 4,000 tonnes. We now have the materials needed to prepare the mixture. The roads are now much cleaner as we use more salt,” said the minister. As many as 444 units of transport are taking part in street cleaning works. 90 units equipped with satellite monitoring systems travel along the streets with heavy traffic and their whereabouts are known at any time. Video cameras set up in difficult road portions monitor the state of the streets. A number of 212 units of transport cleaned the snow from streets on Saturday, mainly in the northern districts, where the layer of snow is about 20 cm. Anatol Salaru assured that the road workers are prepared for any situation and cope with the heavy snowfall.
