The Political Party “People’s Movement Antimafie” will take part in the election campaign prior to the parliamentary elections of February 24, 2019 only under the party listsand will not run in single-member constituencies.
In a news conference at IPN on December 6, Antimafie leader Sergiu Mocanu said the Movement in the elections of 2014 won 1.7% of the vote, in very difficult conditions. The participation under the party list in the elections of February 2019 will allow the electoral message and program of the party to reach the citizens so that the leader of the Democratic Party Vlad Plahotniuc does not have the same strength in the upcoming electoral struggle.
Sergiu Mocanu said a month ago he promoted the idea of boycotting the election campaign among the political parties. Such a situation would have determined the European partners not to delegate observers, to consider Vlad Plahotniuc’s campaign compromised given the switchover to the mixed electoral system, the capture of the mass media, NGOs, etc. The attempt failed. This way Antimafie decided that the party should take part in the election campaign, but only with the party list in the national constituency.
Secretary general of the People’s Movement Antmafie Vitalie Colin said the situation makes them run in elections even if these are a farce, an electoral casino. “We take this opportunity that appears once in four years so as to make our message heard, to promote our message: Republic of the Union. We will run in this campaign to obtain minimum financing from the state so as to continue our struggle,” he stated.
The party’s first vice president Daniela Bodrug said that even if everyone realizes that the results of these elections have been already decided by Vlad Plahotniuc, no one supports the idea of boycotting the election campaign that is held based on rules of the game that are in the interests of Vlad Plahotniuc. The boycotting of the campaign could awake public opinion.
