“Antimafie” seeks EU penalties for Moldova’s administration

The People’s Movement “Antimafie” calls on the European Union to impose penalties on Moldova’s administration so as to avoid a situation similar to that in Ukraine. Representatives of the party mounted a pro-European protest at the head office of the EU Delegation in Chisinau and left a ‘memorandum’ with a relevant request to the EU in the Delegation’s mailbox, IPN reports.

“Antimafie” deputy head Daniel Bodrug told the journalists the fact that Moldova is governed by a mafiotic administration is worrisome and endangers the country’s European course, as in Ukraine. The Ukrainian government was pro-European until November 2013, but then suspended the process of signing the Association Agreement with the EU and provoked thus mass protests that ended in bloodshed.

Daniela Bodrug said the EU imposed penalties on the Ukrainian administration only after the bloodshed. “In order to avoid such developments in Moldova, we demand imposing penalties on Vlad Filat, Vlad Plahotniuc and Vladimir Voronin as they head mafiotic parties,” she stated.

“Antimafie” also requests the EU to demand that the justice sector, prosecution service and the mass media in Moldova be reformed by the parliamentary elections of this year.
