The systemic crisis faced by the fundamental institutions of the state and the deplorable economic situation cannot be resolved by voting in a Government and the early legislative elections are thus inevitable, consider representatives of the People’s Movement Party “Antimafie”, who made public a petition by which they ask civil society to insist on the amendment of the electoral legislation because the pro-Russian and anti-European forces will otherwise easily win a constitutional majority in possible elections.
In a news conference at IPN on January 18, the Movement’s deputy head Daniela Bodrug said the petition is addressed to representatives of civil society, opinion leaders and public figures with impeccable reputation. The signatories call on civil society to exert pressure on the MPs so that these amend the legislation and decrease the election threshold and modify the composition of the Central Election Commission and the Broadcasting Coordination Council so that these include professionals who are not politically affiliated.
Daniela Bodrug noted that a dialogue should be initiated between the governmental and nongovernmental institutions and European institutions so as to monitor the process of preparing for early parliamentary elections and of creating equal conditions for electoral competition.
The signatories also demand that the data of the last census should be immediately published. “Why do we insist on this? Because they modified the percentage when determining the electoral results. Before the parliamentary elections of 2014, more than 400,000 people were added to the electoral rolls. As the census data are hidden, the Central Election Commission could change the figures, modifying thus the real results,” said the Movement’s deputy head.
“We will transmit this petition to NGOs. We hope the organizations will react to our call and will manage to bring together NGOs and political parties to a roundtable meeting where to debate the bill to modify the conditions in which the election campaigns are held,” stated Daniela Bodrug. The Movement’s members reminded that a similar petition was submitted to representatives of civil society last summer, but no result was achieved.
