“Antimafie” activists deny accusations of group that left party

A group of representatives of the People’s Movement “Antimafie” denied the accusations made by former members of the party who defected the movement to the Party for Nation and Country and accused them instead of electoral manipulation aimed at increasing the visibility of their new party. The statements were made in a news conference at IPN.

“They evidently pursue the goal of gaining political benefits in order to maintain the élan in the Party for Nation and Country,” said the secretary of “Antimafie” Pavel Gherman. “These people weren’t included in the list of candidates because there were certain suspicions applying to them. We work only with people whom we trust and who meet the message of the Movement “Antimafie””.

Pavel Gherman also said that Vitalie Taulean and the others who left the party didn’t engage much in party work. “On September 14, Mister Taulean was asked to become more actively involved in the party’s activities as, after he became a member of the Political Council, he lost contact with the organization and didn’t attend the meetings. On October 1, the Political Council voted in favor of excluding Mister Taulean,” he stated. “We take part in the fight and the persons who follow us see that we struggle despite rain, wind and the stones thrown at us. Those who made accusations today here lost contact with the party long ago.”

Also, Pavel Gherman denied Vitalie Taulean’s assertion that 25 of the 40 members of the National Political Council of “Antimafie” left the movement. He said that only three members left the party. The assertion that there is dictatorship inside the party is also not true. “We are young and feel free in our organization,” stated the secretary. He also refuted the accusation that the party is financed by the Communist Party, reminding that both of the sons of the “Antimafie” leader Sergiu Mocanu were sentenced to jail during the Communist government.

As the group that left the party accused Sergiu Mocanu of lack of strategy and of having utopian ideas, Pavel Gherman replied that the program of the People’s Movement “Antimafie” is realistic and pragmatic. “As to the possibility of removing all the judges and prosecutors, a political decision can be taken in Parliament by which the legal system is declared defective and all the persons are dismissed. A public tribunal can be created to penalize the judges and prosecutors who broke the law,” he stated.

The People’s Movement “Antimafie” will take part in the November 30 parliamentary elections and will be under No. 7 in the ballots.
