Antimafia pledges support to European course

The People's Movement Antimafia says that even if the pro-Europe parties won the elections only thanks to the judiciary backing them, it won't challenge the outcome and urges other parties to do the same in order not to allow a pro-Russia government.

At a news conference on Monday, Antimafia vice president Daniela Bodrug remarked that the party garnered the most votes among the pro-Europe parties that didn't pass the electoral threshold and that it is ready to support the European course so as to prevent anti-western forces from returning to power.

Daniela Bodrug said her party would demand the implementation without delay of overarching reforms. To make this possible, Antimafia suggests the government should invite a mission of European judges to oversee the process.

Antimafia president Sergiu Mocanu told the same news conference that the party wouldn't challenge the results of the parliamentary election only because the pro-Russia forces remained in the opposition. He also asked the Liberal Party to give up the power-sharing struggle and demand instead guarantees of collective security for the country from its coalition partners.

Sergiu Mocanu added that Antimafia would ask the European Commission to investigate the embezzlement of money offered in aid to Moldova in recent years. The party will also request an international probe against Moldovan officials suspected of committing transborder economic crimes.

To facilitate such investigations, Antimafia promised it would propose a bill to improve witness protection, whose lack has impeded their progress so far.
