The Supreme Security Council was convened by interim President Mihai Ghimpu in the Plahotniuc case only to feign a reaction, Sergiu Mocanu, a former aide to ex-President Vladimir Voronin, stated at a press conference on Monday. Sergiu Mocanu appeared before reporters, in the company of several supporters of what they call the “Antimafia Campaign”, to make “a final demand to the leadership of Moldova”, requesting it to stop protecting businessman Vlad Plahotniuc, whom they accuse of being responsible for multiple illegal and hostile takeovers. “Marian Lupu recognized from the start that he and Vlad Plahotniuc are good friends, Serafim Urecheanu did the same a couple of days later, and Mihai Ghimpu convened that purely formal meeting (of the Supreme Security Council), which Premier Vlad Filat refused to attend”, said Sergiu Mocanu. The former director of the TV channel 2 Plus, Razvan Paveliu, an alleged victim of Plahotniuc's shark-style takeovers, considered as dubious Mihai Ghimpu's decision to convene a meeting where to consult the Prosecutor General and the head of the Anticorrution Center, who are themselves accused of helping Plahotniuc. Nicolae Discant, the owner of a filling station in Calarasi and also a supporter of the Antimafia Campaign, said that he cannot understand why the prosecutors are unwilling to investigate concrete cases of business bullying when evidence is brought to them. Sergiu Mocanu added that in a week's time he will release an action plan to “fight the mafia in Moldova”. The participants also attributed the failure of the referendum to the ruling Alliance for European Integration to deliver on its promises.
