The Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office confirmed that prosecutor of the Ciocana Office Igor Popa went abroad and he was allowed to leave by a decision of the judge of inquiry who invoked the need of medical surgery. No justifying documents were yet presented in court, IPN reports.
By the same decision, the judge of inquiry obliged the prosecutor to give the passport back to the accused. “The anticorruption prosecutors consider the judge of inquiry’s decision is unfounded as no justifying documents were presented in court to confirm the necessity of medical examinations or surgery abroad,“ the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office said.
The chief prosecutor of Ciocana district Igor Popa, deputy chief prosecutor of the municipality of Chisinau, was detained on November 9 on charges of unjust enrichment following journalistic investigations regarding his property. He was placed under house arrest and then under judicial control.
