Anticorruption Center and Tax Inspectorate will take steps to prevent groundless price rises

The Center for Combating Corruption and Economic Crime and the State Main Tax Inspectorate will take join measures to prevent the unfounded rises in the prices of the products that form the minimum consumer basket following the increase in the prices of a number of products and services, Info-Prim Neo reports. In a communique, the Center says that inspections had been carried out at different economic entities during two weeks. It was established that the prices of some of the main food products like milk, butter, eggs, vegetal oil, sugar and others sold in retail and wholesale outlets increased significantly compared with the start of 2009. At the same time, the prices of bread, potatoes and fruit did not change, while of meat products fell by about 10%. The Center for Combating Corruption and Economic Crime and the State Main Tax Inspectorate agreed to continue carrying our inspections and monitoring the formation of prices so as to sanction the traders that break the law. According to the National Bureau of Statistics, the minimum subsistence level (minimum consumer basket) in the third quarter of 2009 was 1,085.4 lei on average per person.
