Anticorruption Alliance to monitor the issue of arrests of BCC members by CCECC
The Anticorruption Alliance is concerned with certain violations reported by several mass-media NGOs and the lawyers of the three Broadcasting Coordination Council (BCC) members, who were charged with bribe-taking and arrested by the officers of the Centre for Combating Economic Crimes and Corruption CCECC.
Anticorruption Alliance sent a letter to CCECC, asking for detailed information about this case, and announcing that they will monitor this situation closely.
According to a press release of the Alliance, as soon as this case is examined, representatives of the Alliance will explain their position regarding the arrest of the BCC members in a separate communiqué.
The Anticorruption Alliance is a volunteer association of 30 NGOs from Moldova, and its purpose is o reduce corruption in the society.
Two weeks ago, CCECC instituted legal proceedings against certain BCC members, for extorting 60 thousand euros from the director of a TV company in exchange for protection and a broadcasting licence. The suspect in this case is Ruslan Plesca and the director of a radio broadcasting company from Balti. Custody warrants have been issued on their names. Following their testimony, the CCECC officers initiated criminal investigations on the complicity of two other BCC members - Ludmila Vasilache and Valeriu Soltan.
Ludmila Vasilache and her BCC colleague Vlad Turcanu, who was also taken to the CCECC, do not exclude that the CCECC actions are the result of their activity within the BCC and the decisions which were passed recently with their support. Vasilache told a news conference that the massive campaign of intimidation of several BCC members can be explained by their attempts to change things. Vasilache, Turcanu and Valeriu Frumusachi were the authors of the warnings applied for the first time to “Teleradio-Moldova” Company and NIT TV station in the election campaign.
