Anti-referendum meeting on occasion of Iasi-Chisinau operation

The Communists Party of Moldova (PCRM), the Union of Communist Youth and the Council of Veterans Tuesday morning staged a meeting at the “Eternitate” Memorial to commemorate the soldiers who died during the Iasi-Chisinau operation of August 1994, Info-Prim Neo reports. In their speeches, the participants rendered homage to those who died while fighting to free Moldova from the Romanian-Fascist occupation. World war II veteran Timofei Savlenschi called on the voters to follow his example and boycott the September 5 constitutional referendum. PCRM leader Vladimir Voronin said the present governors do nothing to keep the memory of those who lost their lives in the battles for Moldova's liberation. “Unfortunately, the power is again in the hands of those who know only how to steal and destroy,” Voronin said. While reading the statement of the PCRM's Central Committee, Communist MP Vadim Misin fainted. His speech was continued by Vladimir Voronin. On August 24, it is 66 years of the Red Army's Iasi-Chisinau operation against the Nazi army.
