The Anti-Crisis Center of the Ministry of the Interior, convened in connection with the heavy rain, will also be active during the next 72 hours to monitor the situation, Prime Minister Dorin Recean said after the meeting convened this afternoon, IPN reports.

Over 100 missions have been undertaken by rescuers, police officers and soldiers to liquidate the consequences of the torrential rain that fell on Saturday on the territory of the country. Most of them are in the southern and central districts of the country. No interventions have been reported so far in the northern region.

Employees of the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations have pumped water out at 23 addresses in Chisinau municipality, as well as in localities of Hîncești, Cantemir, Strășeni, Leova, and Ialoveni districts.

Two bridges were damaged in Romanovca and the dam of a waterbody broke.

R 34 and R 45 roads in Leova remain inaccessible to traffic.

Premier Recean urged the people to refrain from traveling, but also to follow authorities’ announcements. He reminded of the accident in Fălești, in which a child died and another one was hospitalized after the car their mother was driving skidded off the road and hit a tree.

In Chisinau, due to the heavy rain of the past few hours, the running of trolleybuses and buses was suspended to ensure the safety of passengers and staff. Videos posted by netizens show flooded streets and people taken by runoff. Casualties were not reported. The people are advised to stay at home until the rain subsides.

The State Weather Service issued yellow and orange unstable weather warnings for Saturday and Sunday. Torrential rain accompanied by thunder and lightning, in parts with high winds of 50-60 l/m2, were forecast.
