An earthquake measuring 4.6 on the Richter scale occurred last night in Romania's Vrancea region at a depth of 38 km. It reverberated in Chisinau with a magnitude 3 and up to 4 in the south of Moldova, the country's chief seismologist Ion Ilies told IPN.
The tremor that occurred at 11:04pm had no strength to cause major destruction, said Ion Ilies.
This is the 13th earthquake over magnitude 4 to be recorded this year. Last time, a magnitude 5-5.5 event occurred on November 22 in Vrancea. It shook houses and rattled some nerves in Moldova as well, triggering a several-minute cellphone outage.
