After the Anticorruption Prosecutor's Office (APO) on Tuesday informed about the indictment of the head of the Stefan Vodă local organization of the Shor political party, on Wednesday it announced that the leader of the party’s Dondușeni local organization will also appear before judges, IPN reports.
The APO said that this criminal case was also separated from the basic criminal case started in 2022. The accused was charged with complicity in the illegal financing of the political party by an organized criminal group.
The defendant accepted, through complicity, the financing of the party from illicit funds, in the amount of approximately 1.53 million lei. This funding was used to promote the party's political interests and gain power in the state through illegal means.
The defendant did not admit his guilt and the criminal case was remitted to the Buiucani Court of Chisinau City for examination on the merits.
The crime carries punishment in the form of a fine of 57,500 to 92,500 lei or 2 to 7 years in prison, in both cases with ban on holding particular positions or carrying out particular activities for a period of 2 to 5 years.
At the same time, in order to ensure the execution of the fining sentence and eventual special confiscation, assets of the defendant in the amount of approximately 200,000 lei were sequestrated.
