The "full and unconditional realization of Gagauzia’s competencies" was demanded at the Congress of deputies from all levels, held on Saturday, February 15, in Comrat. On one hand, delegates called for dialogue, while on the other, they insisted that Maia Sandu "is not a legitimate president" and that members of the ruling PAS party are "traitors," reports IPN’s correspondent from Comrat.
The Governor of Gagauzia, Evghenia Gutul, threatened Chisinau, stating that Gagauz leaders would reach out to their "friends" in Russia and Turkey to inform them about the "aggressive pressure" they are subjected to and the "criminal regime in Chisinau".
Gutul praised Ilan Shor for his "support of Gagauzia in the fight for the autonomy’s interests" and advised Chisinau to follow his example.
Geopolitical issues were also discussed. According to Evghenia Gutul, expenses on "broken radars" are pointless, though she did not mention that just two days ago, a drone exploded near Ceadar-Lunga. The president of the People's Assembly, Dmitri Constantinov, also claimed that the West is responsible for the war in Ukraine, stating, "The West wanted to draw Ukraine into NATO," citing information allegedly from the United States.
At the end of the meeting, participants voted on a resolution calling on Chisinau to open direct flights with Russia. The delegates also decided to appeal to the Venice Commission to annul the results of the presidential election and the referendum. Additionally, they agreed to ask the United States to verify compliance with the Law on the Special Legal Status of Gagauzia.
While the delegates were in session, supporters of Ilan Shor and Evghenia Gutul, brought in by buses from across Gagauzia, demonstrated in the streets. These are people who receive allowances, so-called "compensations," from Shor, which they openly admit to.
