Anniversary of Eugen Doga celebrated in St. Petersburg

A show dedicated to the 70th birth anniversary of composer Eugen Doga will be organised on May 30 in St. Petersburg, Russia. According to a press release of the Parliament, the event is organised under the patronage of the head of state and Speaker of Parliament. According to Ion Lipciu, resident representative of the Parliament of Moldova to the Commonwealth of Independent States, 100 artists from Moldova and Russia, including the Dance Ensemble “Codreanca” and the Russian Symphonic Orchestra confirmed their participation in the event. Numerous officials were invited to the event and delegations from all CIS members are expected. The show will take place at Oktyabrski Concert Hall in St. Petersburg, which has a seating capacity of 5000. Recently, Oktyabrski hosted the Festival “Martisor 2007”. Via a Decision of Moldova’s Parliament, 2007 was declared the Eugen Doga Year in recognition of the great importance of the musical pieces created by the well-known composer throughout his life, for the contribution to the development of the national culture, and on the occasion of his 70th birth anniversary that was celebrated on March 1. Eugen Doga is the author of valuable music pieces and is the composer of soundtracks for over 200 movies and theatre plays. In 1980 he was given the State Award of Moldova, and in 1984 – the USSR State Award.
