A number of animal protection associations staged a protest in front of the Parliament Building, demanding adopting the legislation on animal protection. Their representatives said they will mount protests until they achieve a result, IPN reports.
One of the organizers of the protest, director of “Alga” Association Valentina Dudnic said the authorities’ position is inhuman as they allow killing and poisoning stray dogs. “Regretfully, nothing is done at municipal level or at national level. The bill that is in Parliament will defend the rights of animals and will allow penalizing the persons to blame for the killing of animals,” she stated.
The leader of the initiative group for animal protection Vitalie Popov said the bill designed to protect the rights of animals was submitted in 2007. It was passed in the first reading and then left aside. At the end of 2013, the Liberal Democratic Party put forward another bill to defend the animals. But this bill hasn’t been adopted either.
“We every day see dogs and cats killed on the road. This is discouraging. The authorities promise, but do nothing,” stated Vitalie Popov.
According to the organizers of the picket, there are about 2,000 stray dogs in Chisinau.
