German Chancellor Angela Merkel sent a message of support in the November 30 parliamentary elections to Prime Minister Iurie Leanca. She wished success to the Premier and to the whole Liberal Democratic Party of which he forms part, saying that during his premiership, Iurie Leanca showed that the economic and social reforms can be done concomitantly, IPN reports, quoting a communiqué from the Government’s press service.
“Under your direction, the efforts to bring Moldova closer to Europe were intensified and the relations with the European Union were thus strengthened. This Sunday’s elections will show if the Moldovans want the path to the European integration to be continued and the country to become a member of the EU,” says the German Chancellor’s letter, quoted by the press service of the Moldovan Government.
Angela Merkel expressed her conviction that it is in Moldova’s interests to continue the path to modernization. “Namely for this reason, I want to encourage you in your determination to convince Moldova’s population of the necessity of reformation policies. On this occasion, I wish all the best to you personally and to the Moldovan people,” wrote the official.
The last time Iurie Leanca and Angela Merkel had a meeting in Berlin in July, during the Moldovan Premier’s official visit to Germany, made at the invitation of the Chancellor.
