German Chancellor Angela Merkel reiterated her support for the European course of Moldova, encouraging the effort made to make progress on the path to integration into the EU. She noted that the Republic of Moldova has a friend and a powerful supporter in her person. The statements were made in a meeting of the German official with the leader of the Liberal Democratic Party Vlad Filat, IPN reports, quoting a communiqué of the party.

In Brussels, Vlad Filat and Angela Merkel discussed the political situation in Moldova and in the region before the November 30 parliamentary elections. Angela Merkel wished the Liberal-Democratic leader success in the elections so as to gain the number of seats of MP needed to continue the country’s European course.
