German Chancellor Angela Merkel stated that Moldova successfully initiated reforms in several fields, managed to form a government coalition and to elect the President. During a joint press conference with Prime Minister Vlad Filat, the Chancellor declared that Moldova must make some efforts to sign the Agreement of Association and for the liberalization of the visa regime with the EU, as well as for the settlement of the Transnistrian conflict, Info-Prim Neo reports. “We know that the situation in the country isn’t really simple. I’ll get the chance to talk to the MPs. I hope that our bilateral relations will be good from now on as well, politically and economically. Moldova has European prospects, but now it’s important to make the first steps regarding the Agreement of Association and the Free Trade Agreement. Moldova has a Government that works really hard in this regard”, said Angela Merkel. The German Chancellor declared that 5+2 negotiations were a good start in the Transnistrian settlement and hopes for more obvious results in September, when a new round of negotiations takes place. “The 5+2 format is a good one for negotiations. Talks and discussions have to be carried out. It’s important that the countries of the European Union participated as well. I think that we must proceed step by step and be patient. We mustn’t forget this process isn’t over yet. Talks with many countries must continue objectively. We should remember this is still an unresolved issue and we must continue to work on it”, declared the German Chancellor. Prime Minister Vlad Filat said that he discussed with Angela Merkel about actions that concerned the bilateral relations, the European integration process and about the country’s successes. “A separate topic was the settlement of the Transnistrian conflict. I thanked the Chancellor for Germany’s and her personal involvement in settling this conflict”, declared the Prime Minister. After the press conference, Angela Merkel will meet representatives of the business community and the heads of Parliamentary Parties. Afterwards, she will meet with Moldovan President Nicolae Timofti. At 6 PM, the Chancellor will deliver a speech at the Republican Palace.
