Angela Merkel might have message for Moldova and CIS countries
German Chancellor Angela Merkel may have a message to address not only to political parties and society of Moldova, but to the Eastern Partners as well, thinks Victor Chirila, executive director of the Foreign Policy Association (FPA).
“Chisinau is a positive example to the Eastern Partnership, relative to the other members. It is not unlikely that Mrs. Merkel may send an encouragement message for Moldova’s democratic reforms, as well as the rest of the Eastern Partnership areas”, said Victor Chirila.
The FPA executive director added that the visit of the German Chancellor is related to European integration and EU’s neighborhood policy, but also to the Transnistrian settlement. “Germany has been rather active lately in facilitating the negotiation process and identifying a final solution to the Transnistrian conflict”, said Victor Chirila.
German Chancellor Angela Merkel will visit Chisinau on August 22 on the invitation of Moldovan Premier Vlad Filat.
