President Nicolae Timofti on November 12 signed a decree to confer the Order of the Republic on German Chancellor Angela Merkel. The decree was published in the Official Gazette on November 20, IPN reports.

Under the decree, the Order of the Republic is awarded to the German Chancellor in profound gratitude for her special contribution to developing and strengthening the Moldovan-German relations of friendship and cooperation and for her constant support for the Europeans integration efforts made by Moldova.
