Anesthetist Maniuc placed under house arrest in Babutchi case

Ecaterina Maniuc, the anesthetist accused in the case of businesswoman Liubov Babutchi's death, has been placed under house arrest for 30 days. The court made this decision today, despite the prosecutor’s request to maintain preventive detention, IPN reports.

Maniuc’s lawyer stated that the ruling is justified and continues to argue that she was not responsible for administering the substances injected into the victim.

Meanwhile, the prosecutor handling the case announced plans to appeal the decision to the Court of Appeal.

Liubov Babutchi died on January 30 during a cosmetic procedure at a beauty salon in Chisinau.

Ecaterina Maniuc was detained ten days after the incident and is accused of illegally practicing her profession and involuntary manslaughter - offenses punishable by up to five years in prison.

Authorities have reported that the salon owner, originally from Ukraine, has left Moldova and is now internationally wanted.

According to Health Minister Ala Nemerenco, the salon where the procedure was performed was not accredited for such services.
