Anesthesiologist to blame for death of 13-year-old child operated at “Emilian Cotaga” Hospital
The 13-year-old child who had his tonsils removed at the National Children’s Hospital “Emilian Cotaga” died because the anesthesiologist acted incorrectly, Minister of Health Andrei Usatyi told a news conference. According to him, a legal case was started against anesthesiologist Petru Negru, while the Hospital’s head Gheorghe Grosu was dismissed, Info-Prim Neo reports.
According to the minister, the doctor administered a too high doze of the anesthetic Halothan. Not the drug is to blame, but the used dose. Now the anesthesiologist is attending a workshop. He will be suspended from post for the period of the investigation.
Andrei Usatyi said the Hospital’s director was discharged owing to inefficient management. “There were discovered a number of irregularities. The treatment protocols weren’t respected. Discussions with the parents weren’t held and the anesthesiologist wasn’t suspended,” he stated.
Attending the conference, the parents of the 13-year-old child said they knew that the doctor was to blame. “A mother’s heart does not lie. I understood it when they told us that the child does not wake up. We demand that this doctor be punished severely,” said the child’s mother Lilia Dita.
The boy died on February 10. The Ministry of Health created a special commission to investigate the case.
In 2005, a three-year-old child also died after being administered the drug Halothan.
