Andrian Candu: We need a constructive dialogue with Russia

Head of Parliament Andrian Candu is for resuming the dialogue and restoring the relations with Russia. He made related statements in the talk show “Fabrika” on Publika TV channel, where he summed up the results of his visit to Moscow, IPN reports.

“The absence of a dialogue with Russia during a rather long period of time led to this situation. There must be clear and sincere discussions, without two-faced games. We must reopen the discussions between the friendship groups and between the interministerial commissions. I had discussions with Sergei Naryshkin and Valentina Matviyenko, which centered upon very important subjects. I invited them to come to Chisinau so as to identify solutions to particular problems. I hope that by this September, we will switch over from statements to the resolving of concrete problems,” said the Speaker.

Andrian Candu also said that he made effort to convince the Russian officials that the path of European integration chosen by Moldova is not aimed against Russia. “I was asked by Valentina Matviyenko why the relations with Russia are not a foreign policy priority for Moldova. I answered that neither the relations with China nor with any other state are a foreign policy priority for us. It is the actions, not the statements on paper that count for us. I told them sincerely that the Association Agreement with the EU is very important for us, for modernizing the country and they must understand that it is not aimed against Russia and we want to have good relations both with the East and the West. Judging by the reaction of my interlocutors, they were satisfied with my answer,” he stated.

As to the bans imposed by Russia on the import of some Moldovan products, Andrian Candu said these were due not to the quality of the products, but to the political factor. He voiced hope that the given problem will be solved by dialogue. “The Moldovan wine is absent from the Russian market and the other Moldovan products may also disappear from this market. I don’t think that only the wine from Gagauzia is good for being sold in Russia,” said the Head of Parliament.
