Speaker of Parliament Andrian Candu calls on the representatives of rule of law institutions and civil society to take part in the implementation of the package of laws on integrity that was passed by the legislative body in the second reading last week. He made such a call in the program “Reply” on Prime TV channel, IPN reports.

“We have a lot to do and I call on everyone to become involved so as to successfully implement these laws. The Supreme Court of Justice must work out a guide on the implementation of the given laws, especially the provisions concerning extended confiscation. Parliament should do some changes to the legislation so that these cases are examined faster. I think civil society should also become involved,” stated Andrian Candu.

According to the Speaker, when the package of laws on integrity is implemented, the public posts will no longer be so attractive. “The property not only of politicians and functionaries, but also of their relatives will be checked. Those who will want to enter politics will have to think well and to give up if they have doubts about their integrity,” he said.

During a call-in, Laura Stefan, Romanian anticorruption expert, said the package of laws on integrity is very close to the Romanian legislation. “It is very good legislation and it is close to the legislation of Romania. In both of the cases, it took rather long for these laws to be passed. But it is important for things to be done well, not swiftly. You now must find suitable people for the system to work,” she stated.

Parliament passed the package of laws on the reformation of the National Integrity Commission and the system of declaring property and interests by persons holding public posts on June 17. The package includes the law on the declaration of property and personal interests, the law on the National Integrity Center and the law to amend and supplement a number of legal acts.
