The European Union model provides very good examples how powerful institutions that do not depend on the human factor can be created. There is no better development model for Moldova than the European integration. Such statements were made by Head of Parliament Andrian Candu in the third Annual Moldovan European Integration Debate Forum that is organized by the Foreign Policy Association and Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung in partnership with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, IPN reports.
In the opening of the event, Andrian Candu said there is probably no politician in Moldova who would have plausible arguments against Moldova’s rapprochement with the EU. However, if those attending the debate forum know the benefits of the Association Agreement with the EU and of the European integration, the ordinary people do not yet feel them one year of the signing of the accord. A lot is yet to be done for these benefits to be felt.
The Speaker noted that even if there is an agenda for implementing the Association Agreement with the EU at parliamentary level too, clear priorities should be set and the best practices of the EU states that had the same path as Moldova should be implemented. The fall of the Government is not a tragedy and a new government with clear objectives is to be formed within ten days.
Foreign Policy Association executive director Victor Chirila said that now Moldova faces very serious challenges. The people are dissatisfied because they hoped that the current government will secure the country’s integration into the EU and will implement the Association Agreement. The dismissal of the Government showed that the situation in the country is degenerating and, if neither the political class, nor the people show responsibility and common sense, the situation could worsen further.
Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Natalia Gherman said the debate forum became a tradition, while the European integration represents Moldova’s constant desideratum.
The debate forum held on October 30 centers on the implementation of the Association Agreement with the EU, national security, freedom of expression, justice sector reform and the fight against corruption.
