Andrian Candu seeks parliamentary hearings on expulsion of seven Turkish citizens

Speaker of Parliament Andrian Candu requested to organize parliamentary hearings on the expulsion of seven Turkish citizens from Moldova. He underlined the importance of the parliamentary control in this case from the perspective of the observance of human rights and national and international norms, IPN reports.

According to the Parliament’s press service, Andrian Candu asked the administration of the commission on national security, defense and public order that is led by Eugen Carpov and the sub-commission for parliamentary control over the Security and Intelligence Service to stage hearings where to invite the administration of the SIS. He also requested to analyze the materials and reports about the expulsion of the Turkish citizens and to announce the results of the hearings so that public control could be ensured on the issue.

The SIS said seven foreign citizens who are suspected of having ties with an Islamic group on September 6 were declared undesirable and expelled from Moldova. The decisions were taken in a move to ensure national security.

The same day, the Liberal-Democratic parliamentary group submitted an application to the administration of the Security and Intelligence Service, asking for explanations over the actions taken by the SIS officers and for detailed information about the causes that led to such decisions.

The group expressed its indignation at the intelligence officers’ illegal intervention and brutal treatment of educators of the Moldovan-Turkish lyceum “Orizont” and requested the legislature to open a parliamentary inquiry into the legality of the actions taken by the SIS and into the eventual participation by President Igor Dodon in determining the given operation.

A teacher of the lyceum, who insisted on anonymity, told IPN that seven persons among whom were the vice director general of “Orizont” Lyceum, the director of the branch in Durlești town, the director of the branch in Ceadâr-Lunga town and a teacher, were taken from near their houses in the morning of September 6. A minor was also arrested, but was later set free. It is not known where these persons are. They asked for political asylum in the Republic of Moldova in spring and were to get an answer to their applications in October. Therefore, the expulsion is not fully correct from legal viewpoint.
