Speaker of Parliament Andrian Candu said the next legislature could decide to further simplify the presidential institution. According to him, a constitutional reform is probably needed to fully implement the idea of parliamentary republic, IPN reports
In the talk show ”Moldova live” on the public TV channel Moldova 1, referring to the suspension of President Igor Dodon from office for appointing two new ministers in the Filip Government, Andrian Candu said he suspects there will be yet reasons for suspending Igor Dodon given that there are bills that the President could reject. “If we manage to reach a compromise in Parliament and to vote for amending the Constitution and enshrining the European course in it, do you think President Dodon will promulgate the law? The new Broadcasting Code that contains anti-propaganda elements and things that President Dodon considers we should not touch, like defending the Republic of Moldova from mainly Russian propaganda, is also to be promulgated. Do you think President Dodon will promulgate it?” asked the Speaker.
Andrian Candu also said that he cannot say the relations with the European Union worsened as these relations are based on particular documents, treaties, agreements and Moldova’s strategic interest to integrate into the EU. “We have the Association Agreement, the Free Trade Agreement that already bring benefits to the country. Owing to exports and to the investments from the EU, we have economic growth, technologies, human capital, financial capital. We do not doubt at all the fact that the EU is a strategic partner and we want to become a member of this. Regrettably, there were elements and political debates,” noted the politician.
Andrian Candu said the government will cope without the money that was to be disbursed by the EU as macro-financial assistance. “We will cope without this money as, based on the same adopted reforms, we collected additional amounts into the budget and can raise the salaries and pensions and can build roads and construct the Arena,” he stated, noting the government will continue the dialogue and cooperation with the EU so as to reach that compromise based on which the beneficial relations will be restored, including as regards the macro-financial assistance in the future.
