There is no other alternative to Moldova’s sustainable development than its rapprochement with the European Union and then its integration into the EU, Head of Parliament Andrian Candu said in the talk show “Public area” on Radio Moldova station, IPN reports.
“It’s true that there is certain disappointment among the Moldovan people and the European partners that had confidence in Moldova and in its authorities and considered us a success story. We must concentrate our efforts and intensify the reforms and must also find solutions to the acute problems, either from the banking sector or from the justice sector,” stated the Speaker.
Andrian Candu gave as example the Law on the Prosecution Service, saying the Venice Commission approved of this bill and it must be passed by the end of the current parliamentary session. “I will personally become involved if I see that the Government delays things. We have yet a lot to do to improve the business climate, to fight corruption and are to take measures in other economic and social areas. We must accelerate the pace so as to restore the confidence of the people and of our foreign partners,” he said, adding that a bill will be put forward to regulate the mechanisms of cooperation between the state institutions so as to accelerate the association with the EU.
As to the economic relations with Russia, Candu said Moldova was and will remain a reliable partner of Russia. But Russia must understand that Moldova’s integration with the EU is the road to the country’s modernization. “There are countries in the EU, like Serbia for example, which have a free trade agreement with Russia too and such a mechanism works. There are also other examples. The European integration does not mean that Moldova will terminate the relations with its traditional partners or that it wants to come closer to the EU to the detriment of Russia or other traditional partners,” said the Speaker.
