Andrian Candu: Moldova must be regarded as a bridge between West and East

The rapprochement between Moldova and the EU must not isolate the country from other partners. Moldova has privileged relations with the CIS countries and will sign the Association Agreement with the EU, while the Government’s mission is to keep both of the possibilities open so that Moldova is regarded as a bridge between the West and the East, Deputy Head of Parliament Andrian Candu said in a meeting with the Vice President of the Czech Senate Premysl Sobotka, who was in Moldova on an official visit, IPN reports.

According to the Parliament’s press service, Andrian Candu said the signing of the Association Agreement between Moldova and the European Union does not represent the end of the required stages and processes, but a start for a number of accomplishments, especially internal reforms.

The Deputy Speaker underlined the importance of developing the bilateral relations while implementing Moldova’s European agenda. “The experience of the Czech Republic will definitely help us to easier overcome certain moments and to avoid particular mistakes in the European integration process,” said Andrian Candu.

Premysl Sobotka said that he came to Moldova to discuss ways by which the Czech Republic can support the country in its efforts to come closer to the EU. “The liberalization of the visa regime with the EU is only a first step felt by the Moldovan citizens. The Czech Republic will support Moldova to implement the provisions of the Association Agreement, with its political and economic components,” he stated.
