Head of Parliament Andrian Candu assured that Moldova remains firmly committed on the path of reforms and European integration, IPN reports, quoting the Parliament’s press service.
Within his first official visit to Brussels as Speaker on November 16, the official had a meeting with the European Parliament Rapporteur for Moldova Petras Auštrevičius. The Head of Parliament said that among the priorities of the Moldova authorities are to improve the situation in the financial-banking sector, to reform the justice sector and fight corruption and to enhance the business conditions in the country.
Andrian Candu said it is very important to restore people’s confidence in the state institutions by reforming them, especially the justice and anticorruption ones. To complete these reforms, the authorities count on the support of the EU mission of experts for assessing the national institutions.
For his part, Petras Auštrevičius said the EU attentively follows the events in Moldova. He called on the Moldovan authorities to act with determination so as to improve the internal situation. “The European Union remains a committed and long-term partner for Moldova, which must hasten the reforms, if it undertook to follow the path of European integration, so as to fully benefit from the advantages of the Association Agreement,” he stated.
During his two-day visit to Brussels, Andrian Candu will have meetings with a number of European officials. The visit marks one year of the ratification of the Association Agreement between Moldova and the EU by the European Parliament.
