“If we do not implement the law in the case of the large-scale theft committed in the banking system, we should better leave the government and this country too,” Head of Parliament Andrian Candu said in the talk show “Moldova live” on the public TV channel Moldova 1, IPN reports.
According to the Speaker, things reached a stage when nothing can be hidden and when the implementation of the law and the punishment of those to blame became inevitable. “Great pressure is exerted by society. They talk about us abroad. The most important thing now is to restore the money and punish the culprits so that the depositors are affected in no way,” he said.
Andrian Candu believes that most of the money stolen from the three banks could be restored. “Some 30-40% of the money will be recovered from the assets of the persons involved. Another part of the money can be recouped from the pledged property. The most difficult thing will be to restore the money transferred to bank accounts abroad. But this is not impossible,” he stated.
Andrian Candu admitted that he didn’t act professionally when he made public the report produced by the U.S. company Kroll. “From professional viewpoint, I acted incorrectly. But the interest of society was too great. I see no reasons why I should be held accountable. I will bear responsibility only if Kroll sues me. The report was a profound one and I think our specialists wouldn’t have done so well. Kroll will accept to carry out the second part of the investigation,” said the Head of Parliament.
