The Government will make effort to ensure the distribution and sale of Moldovan products through shops inside and outside the country and will look for solutions to compensate the farmers for the losses sustained following the bans imposed by Russia, Minister of Economy Andrian Candu said on his blog, quoted by IPN.
Andrian Candu noted that in order to avoid trade-related problems in the future, emphasis is now put on the modernization of agriculture by increasing processing capacities. The Government is taking measures to identify alternative markets. The EU opened its market for the Moldovan agricultural products, while such non-EU member states as Ukraine, Belarus, the United States and China assured that they will intensify trade with Moldova.
“I was recently announced that after many years Ukraine ultimately removed the differentiated tax on distilled alcoholic drinks (cognac) and from September 1 these Moldovan products can return to the Ukrainian market,” said Andrian Candu. Furthermore, solutions are being looked for to maintain and even intensify the dialogue with the Russian side so that the best options are identified in concert.
“We have lately seen the so-called patriots of Moldova making a show. We see Dodons and Shelins showing to the whole Moldova that they are those who were behind the imposition of sanctions on Moldova by Russia. The Dodons and Shelins must understand that they now risk a lot and not only their political career, but also the dignity of citizens of Moldova. Those who betray the own people, who go to Moscow and sell information about the weaknesses of their country’s people cannot have a good score in elections,” said the minister of economy.
Andrian Candu encourages everyone to promote the Moldovan products by eating them, to look for them at the market and in shops. “The ‘real patriots’ to whom I referred could eat by an apple grown in Moldova daily, for their health and for the welfare of the country that they say they love,” he stated.
Russia banned the import of fresh and canned fruit from Moldova in the middle of July, while the import of wine almost a year ago. Recently, the Russian authorities introduced customs duties on a series of Moldovan products, in breach of the bilateral agreements and the accords signed within the CIS.
