Head of Parliament Andrian Candu had a meeting with the President of the European Parliament Martin Schulz and the High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini in Brussels. The discussions centered on the political situation in Moldova, energy security and the reform agenda, IPN reports.
Martin Schulz expressed his concern about the developments in Moldova and called on the Moldovan political class to find solutions to invest a Government supported by a sustainable parliamentary coalition. “The Republic of Moldova needs a stable Government to reduce the country’s energy dependence,” stated the President of the European Parliament.
Andrian Candu assured that solutions for forming a stable ruling alliance are being looked after in Chisinau so as to form a Government that will be able to undertake painful, but necessary reforms.
Federica Mogherini said the European Union remains committed to Moldova and is waiting for sustainable solutions. “We respect the internal political dynamics in Moldova and expect that the Moldovan political class will unblock the situation,” stated the European official.
The two officials discussed the internal developments in Moldova, the crisis in the financial-banking sector and the measures that are overdue one year after the adoption of the Association Agreement with the EU, which includes the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Agreement.
Andrian Candu said the European integration is now related to the country’s internal policy, not its foreign policy. He underlined that the resumption of discussions with the IMF must be among the immediate priorities of the new ruling alliance that will be formed, including of the Government.
The Moldovan Speaker is concluding a two-day visit to Brussels.
