The date when the upcoming parliamentary elections will take place could be set by the legislature during the next two weeks. Speaker of Parliament Andrian Candu voiced hope this will happen in the current parliamentary session so as to offer the Central Election Commission enough time for preparations. The issue was developed in the talk show “Friday with Anatol Golea” on RTR Moldova channel, IPN reports.
The Speaker said the parliamentary elections can be organized within three months of the expiration of the current Parliament’s mandate, which falls on November 30, 2018. So, the elections can be held between December 1, 2018 and March 1, 2019.
Andrian Candu expressed his confidence that all the pro-European forces will sit at the negotiating table after the future elections and will agree a method of forming the pro-European legislature. A coalition with the Party of Socialists in the next Parliament is highly improbable given the difference in views and statements.
In another development, the Speaker said the works to implement the e-Parliament system will start at the end of July. This includes the introduction of electronic voting in the legislative body. “The UNDP held a tender contest and chose a company from Europe. This company is now working out the pan for introducing the e-Parliament system that has a number of components. They will begin the works at the end of July,” stated Andrian Candu. According to him, electronic voting will be also used by the members of the current legislature.
