Speaker of Parliament Andrian Candu congratulated Antonio Tajani on the occasion of his appointment as President of the European Parliament. The Speaker expressed his confidence that the European Parliament will continue to support the European perspective of Moldova, IPN reports, quoting the legislative body’s press office.
Andrian Candu said the EU is a strategic partner of the Republic of Moldova, while the government will promote the democratic reforms with the same insistence. “The commitments of the Moldovan Parliament to the European Union are firm and unchanged and the government will continue to make effort to ensure visible progress in advancing reforms,” he stated.
Antonio Tajani, former European Commissioner for Industry, was chosen President of the European Parliament by the votes of 351 MEPs. Tajani replaced Martin Schulz, who will return to the internal politics of Germany. Antonio Tajani was four times elected member of the European Parliament and held the posts of European Commissioner for Transport and for Industry during two terms.
