The commission of inquiry into the circumstances of the anti-constitutional putsch attempted by the Democratic Party through the Constitutional Court and the Prosecutor General’s Office was set up with the aim of intimidating the parliamentary opposition, particularly the PDM, the party’s vice president Andrian Candu was quoted by IPN as saying in a program on TVR Moldova channel.

“Attempted coup, takeover, illegal keeping of the power are notions that have their own description. They mean that someone keeps power by force or wants to illegally and abusively take over. The PDM managed the Government of the Republic of Moldova in the interim period from the parliamentary elections until the investing of the new Government and proposed holding snap parliamentary elections,” stated Andrian Candu.

“We do not speak about takeover or at least about keeping of the power as if it had been so, we would have said that the PDM won the elections and will remain in power. But we said that the solution is the snap elections and the people’s choice”.

According to the Democratic heavyweight, those who tried to take over illegally would have also been probably to blame for violating the Constitution, if the Constitutional Court’s judgements had remained in force. Given that the rulings were reviewed, those who came to power became legitimate.

“This commission lacks substance and will produce no result and is only an instrument for intimidating the PDM and, in this case, the parliamentary opposition,” stated Andrian Candu.

On June 18, Parliament constituted a commission of inquiry into the circumstances of the anti-constitutional putsch attempted by the Democratic Party through the Constitutional Court and the Prosecutor General’s Office. The MPs ascertained that a serious analysis is needed into the circumstances in which the Constitutional Court adopted its decisions of June 7-9 that were later annulled. The MPs suspect these decisions were taken by order of the PDM and its leader Vlad Plahotniuc.
