Andrian Candu: Bill on uninominal voting system will be registered next week

The bill to replace the party-list proportional representation electoral system by the uninominal voting system will be registered with the legislative body next week, Speaker of Parliament Andrian Candu stated in the talk show “In Depth” on PRO TV Chisinau channel, IPN reports.

“The draft law hasn’t been yet registered. It will be registered next week. When we campaigned and wrote about uninominal voting, we didn’t clearly explain the conception. There is an idea that is being developed and that will be subject to public debates and we will then discuss what constituency is and other things. The debates will involve journalists and civil society,” said the Speaker.

Andrian Candu also said that they will insist on the uninominal voting system, while the mixed electoral system is excluded.

The Speaker explained that the electoral system should be replaced because toxic people entered Parliament until now. “We carried out polls and established that most of the people want a change. The people should know their MP and this should be responsible for the constituency where he was elected. The problem resides in the electoral lists of parties. I want to go and talk to the people. Vladimir Plahotniuc will also talk to the people,” he stated.
