The MP of the Democratic Party Andrian Candu has requested, during the session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, that what is happening in the Republic of Moldova be closely monitored. According to the MP, "there is a huge risk that the current governance could become a fiasco", IPN reports.
A PDM press release mentioned that Andrian Candu "denounced the abuses committed by the PSRM-ACUM coalition against the parliamentary opposition". According to the Democrat, who is a member of the Moldovan delegation to the Assembly, “The Republic of Moldova is currently facing major challenges. The most important of them are the strengthening of state institutions, the reform of the justice system, the fight against corruption and the improvement of the population living standards”.
The MP also mentioned, "achieving the goals requires the involvement of all parties. Despite the government's stated intentions, its actions prove the opposite. Opposition parliamentary parties are limited in freedom of expression and in actions”.
"The current government has started a real " witch hunt " against leaders and members of opposition parties. Multiple abuses, violations of the law and of procedures are admitted when the parliamentary immunity of MPs is lifted, "said Andrian Candu, quoted in the statement. According to him, "an abuse of the governing coalition is also the dismissal of professionals from the system on the grounds that they have worked under the previous Government. And all this in the conditions of acute shortage of qualified personnel”.
The Democratic MP "further denounced at PACE the fact that the most important laws adopted in the Republic of Moldova were not subject to the expertise of the Venice Commission. In this context, the case was invoked when the selection of candidates for the position of Prosecutor General fell within the competence of a governmental commission and not of the Superior Council of Prosecutors, as provided by the Constitution”.
