Director, writer, publicist, journalist, researcher, MP in the first Parliament of 1990, presidential adviser and program director at Vocea Basarabiei radio station Andrei Vartic passed away on Tuesday at 22.50, Info-Prim Neo reports. Poet Nicolae Dabija said that Andrei Vartic is another Grigore Vieru that departed this life. The difference is that Grigore Vieru concentrated all his efforts on poetry, while Andrei Vartic used his genius in publicistics, theater, physics, mathematics and other areas. “When the true history of our people is written, Andrei Vartic’s name will not be avoided. He watched over all the nice events that happened at the start of the 1990 revolts, bringing the poems on barricades and the poetic theater that he founded and making the words to start fires and cause quakes,” Dabija said. Andrei Vartic became a friend of the director of the National Library Alexei Rau from the very first moments of their cooperation. “He was the most faithful and oldest reader. He headed a philosophical club and inaugurated a number of exhibitions. He did not tolerate the lie. He was very courageous and a great patriot. He did not hesitate to help the people as he lived for the people,” Alexei Rau said. “The later Andrei Vartic was an ardent fighter for truth and justice and a seeker with encyclopedic knowledge,” said academician Petru Soltan. “He had a wide knowledge of mathematics, physics, chemistry, philosophy and genesis of the Romanian language, Romanian people and humanity. It is my duty to say that the authorities in Chisinau do not need such values and would like to keep us in morass and in a polar night. God rest his soul,” said Petru Soltan. Andrei Vartic was born on October 21, 1948 in Danceni, Chisinau. In 1973, he created the Poetic Theater that became one of the centers of the national liberation movement in Bessarabia. As an active member of the literary club “A. Mateevici” and of the People’s Front of Moldova, he organized anti-totalitarianism and pro-Romania meetings and the Great National Assembly of August , 1989. Form 1990 until 1994, he had been a member of the first Parliament of the Republic of Moldova, representing the People’s Front of Moldova. He actively participated in the creation of the democratic organizations in Moldova. The funeral will take place on Friday, June 5. He will be buried at the Central Cemetery located on Armeneasca Street.
