Andrei Vacarciuc: EU shows us that we are wanted

“Surely I will vote for the ratification of the Association Agreement in Parliament. It is an important document for Moldova, which oscillated between the East and the West during 25 years, not yet during the last five years, when the Government and Parliament, despite the weak majority sometimes, daily made effort to bring the country closer to Europe and, finally, we managed to,” Liberal-Democratic MP Andrei Vacarciuc has told IPN within a survey carried out among lawmakers.

The MP underlined that the results achieved by the government in the rapprochement with the EU are palpable, even if not every citizen feels them yet. “On the whole, the European Union’s not only financial, but also diplomatic and security-related support is felt. For the first time in its history, the European Union abolished the visa requirements for Moldovans before the signing of the Association Agreement. This unprecedented openness shows that we are wanted in the EU,” he stated.

Andrei Vacarciuc noted that until 2009, the government had no serious intention of coming closer to the EU. The European course was only declared as the foreign policy course, but was then abandoned.

On June 27, Prime Minister Iurie Leanca will sign the Association Agreement with the European Union in Brussels, alongside the representatives of Georgia and Ukraine.
