Andrei Năstase says ‘only surgery’ can save Chisinau

ACUM bloc’s common mayoral candidate Andrei Năstase has compared the capital city to an “organ in quite a bad shape.” “Only surgery can save the situation. Medication is no longer effective.”

At a press conference today, Năstase used further metaphors, likening his strategy for Chisinau to a “pyramid where the residents are placed at the top”, without specifying what he would place at its base. If no radical changes are made in five-ten years, Năstase maintains, Chisinau will imminently collapse.

According to the candidate, a mayor’s role is to provide a vision for how to develop the city, and the role of his or her team is to cater to the people’s needs. “Poverty and chronic corruption – that’s what the oligarchic regime left behind,” declared Andrei Năstase.

In his activity as mayor, Năstase promises to pay increased attention to social responsibility. He also plans to appoint a deputy mayor to oversee the suburbs. Năstase intends to use good practices from developed cities to modernize Chisinau.  Professionals will be kept in the local administration, while corrupt functionaries will have to go.
