Andrei Nastase: Instigators were infiltrated among protesters

Instigators were infiltrated among protesters and these tried to destabilize the situation, Andrei Nastase, one of the founding leaders of the Civic Platform “Dignity and Truth” said, explaining the clashes between the protesters and the police during the October 4 protest.  He made such a statement in the program “Moldova live” on the public TV channel Moldova 1, IPN reports.

“They tried to act like on April 7, 2009 – to infiltrate instigators and to cause altercations with the police so that the peaceful protest degenerated. I personally identified an instigator with experience. I think only Plahotniuc is behind these provocations. He wants the protests to degenerate the most,” said Andrei Nastase.

He defended the police veterans who were accused of destabilization by the mass media. “If the police veterans hadn’t been there, I don’t know what could have happened. These formed a cordon outside the police to protect the buildings. On the other hand, the people are very angry with the current government, which hid and barricaded itself. The situation can yet get out of control,” said the protesters’ leader.

Anatol Taranu, head of the Center for Political Research and Consultancy “Politicon”, said the developments during the October 4 protest should arouse concern. The people reacted to the government’s delay in taking attitude.  If no measures are taken, the protesters with more radical views could exacerbate the situation. At a certain moment, the authority of the organizers could become insufficient for keeping the situation under control.
