The new mayor of Chisinau Andrei Nastase said he will compete in the parliamentary elections together with the Party “Action and Solidarity” (PAS) and the Liberal Democratic Party in accordance with an agreement signed last yearend. He noted that the honoring of all the commitments he made before the elections necessitates the combination of forces and the involvement of competent persons, IPN reports.
In a press briefing given after the preliminary final election outcome was made known, Andrei Nastase said that together with the victory in the mayoral elections, they laid the foundations of a pro-European alliance for the legislative elections that they are obliged to win so as to free the country from captivity, from oligarchy by giving a decisive blow.
PAS leader Maia Sandu thanked her colleagues of the Party “Action and Solidarity” who worked hard during these weeks and did a good job and the party’s supporters who responded to their call and voted in a large number. “This example of unity showed that we are powerful and can win big victories. Today we scored an important victory and aim to score another important victory in this autumn’s parliamentary elections,” stated the politician.
She congratulated the newly elected mayor of Chisinau, noting that Andrei Nastase undertook serious commitments in the electoral campaign and will have to work hard to fulfil them, but they will have an eye on him. Maia Sandu called on the people of good faith to join their teams.
According to the preliminary results, the candidate of the Party “Platform Dignity and Truth” Andrei Nastase won the mayoral elections by 52.57% of the vote, while his rival Ion Ceban, of the Party of Socialists, gained 47.43%.
